Kids Art Projects 101

Tap into art experiences that encourage creativity, support problem solving and skill development, and inspire self-confidence in young artists.

“Ready-to-go lessons that inspire kids to love art”

Hi, I’m Cara!

I am an elementary art teacher, and I’ve been teaching K-5 art for more than 15 years.

I believe beautiful things happen when you invite children to engage in authentic, age-appropriate, art experiences.

I have a BFA , an MA in Art Education, and a doctoral degree in Instructional Leadership, but don’t worry!

You don’t need to be an art teacher or even an artist to join in this program.

I am also a mom to two boys, ages 9 and 12.

Helping children understand and enjoy the visual arts is my passion.

I created Kids Art Projects 101 to help you save time and inspire the kids in your life!

You've got options!

Project-Based Units for K-2

Project-Based Art Units  Inspired by Famous Artwork

This series is a project-based approach with ties to famous art and artists. The projects are designed for use with young children, and they heavily emphasize play and experimentation, but they also target specific skills, techniques, and understandings.

Inside each unit you’ll find a PDF unit guide full of information and tips for teaching a series of art lessons to students in preschool through grade 2.

Each unit is broken down into three or four 40-minute sessions.

For each session there is a guided digital presentation that has already been prepared for you and can be used via Google Slides or PowerPoint. The presentation also introduces and guides you through completion of a studio project and follow-up activity.

This approach is awesome because it layers art history connections with guided instruction about the elements of art and principles of design. Each unit ultimately results in a completed art project.

These units will have you feeling more relaxed, prepared, and purposeful about engaging young kids in art learning!

New units added regularly!

Art Songs for Transitions and Class Routines

Maximize student engagement with 36 fun, simple, and purposeful song posters adapted by Kids Art Projects 101.

This set is part of series designed to incorporate music and movement into the art room. Not only do songs make learning more fun, they integrate rhythm and rhyme as well as specific art concepts and behavioral expectations relating to art class.

The songs are art-based adaptations of traditional classroom chants, songs, and rhymes. Set to familiar tunes, these songs help young students quickly and cheerfully absorb and reinforce procedural and content-based knowledge specific to the art room.
